Ontario Craft Beer 105: Little Known Je Ne Sais Quoi
Beer #105: Little Known Je Ne Sais Quoi (4.2%) originates from an unknown brewery in Barrie, and is "meant
to be enjoyed and not defined," or so says the label. I enjoyed it but
will also break the rules to define it a little as a hoppy session ale, with lemon, grapefruit and bready malts up front, and a nice lingering bitter edge.
It's a bright beer in both colour and flavour.
Thanks to Don Redmond's dogged investigative craft beer journalism on his blog, Brew Ha Ha, I now also know that it's contracted out of Flying Monkeys, via Steve Thibault, the head of their western distributor, 49th Parallel Group. Is there a Pulitzer for craft beer? Redmond deserves one for getting to the bottom of this malty mystery.
